«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤» ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ***************************************** and now for: ** VOLUME 2, REPORT NO. 006 ** ***************************************** E-PUBLISHING AND DRATTED SPAM ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ There haven't been any issues of The Waybill Gazette in a few weeks... for a couple of reasons. As you know, I've been dealing with this issue of the appropriate list-mail service and/or software. And ended up in what I now call "Autoresponder Hell." The service that I took on (actually, several in a row...) did a powerful lot of damage to our list of almost 1200 members.... and dwindled it down to about 200. No amount of talking with owner and programmer did any good, so OUT the door it went, and I spent more than two weeks re-constructing the damage done. AND I purchased a top of the line software, deciding that running things from OUR server instead of relying on outside services, was the best solution. So far, this has been slick as ice and VERY efficient. Please let me know in the future, if you have any delivery problems with the Gazette. Also... if you need any advice or recommendations for any of these online services if you have or are starting a business, or even if you have a list for your extended family newsletter please E-Mail me, as I'd be happy to share my experiences, as well as the solutions. This has been a hard, hard technology trek!! I have also been studying this E-Mail/SP*AM problem, IN DEPTH. As I've shared with you before, it seems that because of the wretched sp*ammers, some E-Mail rules have gotten so strict that lots of legitimate E-Mail isn't getting through. I've begun to experience this even with my own ISP. Ezine & Newsletter publishers all over the Net are pondering this problem... and there are *not* any good answers. The best thing I can come up with is that with NEXT issue, I will simply send out an overview type of announcement, and you may read the *big* version online. I will also provide a link to a downloadable/printable PDF E-Book of each issue. Since the length of an E-Mail is one of the biggest sp*am triggers and you all know how I do run on :-) this is probably the best of current solutions. Sp*ammers aren't just annoying when they clutter our m*ail boxes with all the junk about viagra, mortgages, Iraqi playing cards and how-to-enlarge-parts-I-don't-even-have. They are now causing us to miss mail that we really want to get. Point in fact: I've had business mail sent to the Las Cruces side of Waybill/Carson Enterprises, intercepted!!! Sometimes I think the spam "cure" is worse than the disease.... and I've made no bones about my opinion to my ISP. I strongly urge you to keep on top of it with your own ISP. When they start interfering with PERSONAL MA*IL Gramma's digi-photos, your daughter's note from college my question is.... could they get away with this with your snail m*ail? Of course not, it's an infringement of privacy, if not downright theft. Remember the squeaky wheel story, okay? I am betting it's going to get worse before there are any real answers if indeed there are any. Is the only recourse MORE LEGISLATION? If so, I say... pay these out of work IT people big bucks to come up with the ultimate sp*am tool! I am *not* for legislating our last bastion of freedom, the Net. A WORD FROM THE EDITOR ABOUT THE WAYBILL VISION ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ My vision for this newsletter, and indeed for the entire idea of "community" as is found in our group at Waybill To Adventure, is that each of us will begin to grow... Not just in knowledge of Treasure Hunting or hidden wealth or cache hunting... But also in the ideas that have empowered people for all the ages. One of these central ideas is that somehow, we CAN embark on a journey into things that we love, things that take over every corner of our minds in every minute of every day.... And we CAN make those things become not just a passion, but a PROFESSION.
Perhaps, growing up in this field in the household of Glenn Carson has somehow "bent" things a bit and given them more detail, more successes, and more of the finding of solutions when things don't go so well. Perhaps I have believed too many treasure tales and read too many Tolkien and Oz books... and the endings are sweet and powerful, courageous and POSITIVE, and "the war" gets won by the hero(es/ine/ines). But I think it is utterly essential that you, who BELIEVE in these topics enough to join this group, who spend time reading books and yes, newsletters (:-), and who spend big chunks of time playing with electronic gadgetry associated with coinshooting and treasure hunting (your metal detector, your GPS parephernalia, your beepers and scales and what-have-you.... all the way down to the simplest of screwdrivers or home-made sand-sifting pans).... You cannot tell me loudly enough to make me believe that you got into this JUST because of the Coronado Glow, the Superstition Mountains Mesmerizing Aura, the Colorado Ghost Town's Siren Song. You did NOT get into this for just the treasure tales! You got into this, as well, just KNOWING that someday this could and *would* be lucrative. This would make money. This would allow you to quit your J.O.B. (Just Over Broke). Right? Am I right? Listen, growing up in this, I am severely aware (and have included small sagas of this in papers from high school to the doctorate level) of HOW LUCRATIVE treasure hunting can be. In our home, this was not just a hobby. This was not just a dream. It soon became an actuality of putting pen to paper and coming up with a few publishable "things" ... and with persistence... BELIEF ... it really truly BECAME a real publishing house. A BUSINESS. Treasure Hunting is a business. There were times in my childhood.... LOL! ALL TIMES in my childhood, rather.... my Dad's occupation with the metal detector, with research, with traipsing the hills like a billy goat... led to the means to send 5 children to school with lunch money. It bought clothes. It bought gasoline. Groceries. It filled the gaps. And then, it became the primary life's work. The R.O.L.E. (Really Outrageous Life Event!) Treasure Hunting is a business. My vision here at Waybill is to bring these together, to help YOU bring these together and to help you explore how you really CAN turn your hobby into a business. So, please expect to see a smattering of each topic, in each newsletter. There are going to be a lot of priceless items included, for making this BUSINESS work for you! You don't need an MBA to turn this into a business, just like you don't need a doctorate degree in History to research, track down, and FIND a hidden treasure. There are lots of "nobody's" out there who, underneath their VERY SAVVY **silence** about their occupations ... are really very, very "somebody." They've found the perfect blend of the intellectual and scholar in their searches. They've donned the digger pants and mud-clad boots ONE MORE TIME and had the courage to traipse the trails ONE MORE TIME, with new perspectives found in books or maps. They've turned their mistakes into a true gold mine of experience, and never, ever gave up the dream, or the KNOWLEDGE. And they've silently turned a passion into .... a business. Waybill is a community of like-minded people. I am convinced of it. In the 30+ years of H. Glenn Carson Enterprises, I've seen the same desires and descriptions in hundreds of people from every walk of life, of culture, of location. And the dream has become a reality for many of them. The tenacious ones. The ones who are not afraid of getting dirty and grubby on one more hike up the hill... and the ones who are not afraid of a book and the tantalizing leads that can be found in one's research. They are not afraid of a new challenge, whether that is learning to take on a journey into uncharted land or water ... or whether that is learning the COMPUTER in order to be able to spreadsheet and organize your leads, your finds, your contacts. Get ready for the ride of your TH'ing life. This newsletter is positioned to become the largest gathering of USEFUL treasure hunting tools and advice that has ever hit the market. Our long year of constructing the boat has been, like the old joke.... "Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs, the Titanic by professionals." Not to say we aren't professional here at Waybill! The Waybill site has been carefully put together by people who know the ropes of this business of treasure hunting, publishing, and now, THE INTERNET and the power of the personal PC. But we have a unique blend, in that we also specialize (a collective 80 years or more) in research, in writing ... the "hidden" talents of searching out lost and buried caches. We didn't leave out the lifeboats when we constructed this thing! You won't find more foundational advice for this field, than here at Waybill! Speaking of Noah ;-) ... there are a few more lessons we could take away from this story: 1. Don't miss the boat. 2. Remember, we may all be in the same boat - but some of us pay better attention to the writing on the wall (oops, different bibilical story!) 3. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark. 4. Don't listen to critics. Just get on with the job that needs to be done. 5. Build your future on high ground. 6. Speed isn't everything.... snails were there with the cheetahs. And I will leave you with this.... some very wise words from another grizzly old guy from more recent times (or is that, FUTURE times, far, far away....): ***** "Do, or do NOT. There is no TRY." ***** ~ Yoda An adventure a day keeps the Doctor away, ~ Leanne _______________________________________________ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤» ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ LOOKING FOR A DYNAMITE WAY... ....to begin a business online? ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ How does exchanging FR*EE for CA*SH sound? There is an unbeatable system for turning free items into great sales on eBay. This E-Book is only $19.95 and gave me instant ideas about my next auctions ... read about a little known strategy to obtaining higher ticket items for free: scanners, printers, ink, movie tickets, autographed pictures, and much much more. The author of this book calls himself the "King of Fr*ee" and with excellent reason! And he has a powerful 16-day, VERY THOROUGH and fr*ee course on eBay selling. I thought I knew a lot about auctioning, until I signed up for the course! He tells it like eBay does NOT tell it! More info here: http://freestuff-auction-sales.auctiongurl.com/ I am absolutely certain that your treasure hunting years have left you with piles of unusual, eyebrow-raising, never-pretty for all the dirt.... ITEMS lying around the house/yard/outbuildings/into the road... etc. I KNOW... 801 Juniper, growing up, taught me the value of.... hmmm.... trash. It is ALWAYS someone else's treasure. You don't EVEN want to ask me what I got on eBay for a very old, very rusted 50-year-old PITCHFORK. Well maybe you do want to ask.... and all I can say is, I grinned after I fainted. For those of you who really ARE serious about this endeavor with eBay, I have been collecting tools and information for a couple of years. I've dipped toes in the water and had some success with it. This is a wonderful and fun place to start, in finding a way to dump J.O.B. and B.O.S.S. Here is a fr*ee tool that will save you a ton of time, if you are in auctions at all and useful for any business. Below you can download USPS Shipping Assitant v2.2. You need to be running Windows in order to use this (any version). It would take me 25 pages to explain all the features in this great (FR*EE!) software, so I've included the li*nk to the User Guide, as well. Glenn Carson This is not your ordinary "sales pitch" in any ol' flyer or newsletter. It is primarily addressed to those who hope to recover treasure, and only to a degree to those who at times poke around a bit with a metal detector. There are several important phases any would-be treasure hunter must go through before there is much of any chance to actually recover treasure. First, there must be a desire to seek and possibly recover treasure! That desire may have grown out of reading and hearing some interesting stories, perhaps from knowing an actual treasure hunter, or from another more obscure contact with the subject. This desire demands more than casual interest, it demands belief that treasures exist (a belief most of the public does *not* share) and at least some knowledge of where one might seek treasure with some hope of success. You might encounter an ex-robber on his deathbed who confides a detailed story of how he hid his stolen loot. You might find a yellowed map in an antique piece of furniture, that explains where buried family treasure lies hidden. You might stumble over a storm-exposed pirate chest along a beach. You might fall into a cave filled with Spanish gold. All of these things **HAVE** happened to individuals in the past, but in all reality, do you think that some such thing may happen to YOU? Please don't hold your breath. Yet that is the sort of knowledge you need if you truly want to find treasure. Several years ago I began to let people know that they needed a WAYBILL ("A document giving details and instructions relating to a shipment of goods." Found at Dictionary.com: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=waybill ) .... .... But they needed to fill in that waybill themselves. You find a lead, you get all possible information, you put it all together and decide where the "X" is. Yes, you may be wrong, and if so, you start over and see where you went wrong. ** You create your own waybill ! ** We can help you get started. We make available many books and other informational materials devoted to treasure topics. There are worthwhile starting places in such materials, but I am unable to tell YOU where or how to start. That depends on who you are, how you think and act, where you live, what time you have available, and how seriously you want to get involved. You cannot expect to let someone else do this work for you. If you do, you soon will see their dust on the horizon as they rush off to dig up what you thought was YOUR treasure. We present here... reviews of very helpful books. If you do not have our current catalogue, either in the print version or our downloadable catalogue, please visit us at http://www.waybilltoadventure.com/ where you will find forms and E-Mail links to request one. Our downloadable version is IMMEDIATELY available to you. You can also browse our books at the Waybill To Adventure Book Store, at http://www.1stopbizshoppe.com/waybill_catalog/ We will always do our best to be of help to you in any way we can. Remember... you can read about the treasures others have found, or you can set out to find treasures for yourself. You can read dozens of interesting and well-known treasure tales, or you can seek out the factual leads and develop them into treasure recoveries! You can observe what others have done or are doing... or you can GET OUT THERE and begin doing it for yourself. We can furnish excellent materials to help you set your goals, and other materials to give you some starting places. Will you find the big ticket? Why not have the great adventure of answering that question for yourself. ~ Glenn _______________________________________________ «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤» ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ***************************************** ** HOW DO YOU SPELL S-U-C-C-E-S-S !? ** [Begin with the right tools .... and this book is a terrific start!] ***************************************** A GUIDEBOOK FOR BETTER TREASURE HUNTING ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ H. Glenn Carson. 117 pages, $15.97. Within every wannabe treasure hunter is a superior treasure hunter! It is up to the individual to take the steps between the mediocre and successful pursuit of treasure. There are no schools where you can learn to become a better treasure hunter. Yes, there have been efforts to set up such halls of learning, but for the most part they have been both expensive and not too successful. This book has within it, a curriculum of learning, but YOU must be the instructor AND the student, and work hard to achieve the capabilities hiding there within you. This is no "X Marks The Spot" book. It tries to tell you where you might recognize the *potential* X'es, and perhaps how to place them where they belong. This book is geared to help you seek your highest capabilities. Only in that way can you ignore the zinc cents you may find in any given hour of hunting... and use that hour instead, to look for seated liberty dimes and Indian head cents... with a *good chance of finding them.* It CAN be done, and YOU can do it. We offer no diploma for reading this book, only some carefully crafted help in getting you to recognize your own potentials. It hits with the impact of a mental sledge hammer, and should make a lasting impact upon anyone desiring to improve their ability to locate and recover lost and hidden treasure! There ARE methods and techniques that open access to treasure recoveries means seldom used by those who think of themselves as treasure hunters. This short, powerful presentation should be helpful to those willing to look carefully at new approaches to doing things.
